Jessica Stephens

Jessica Stevens

Jessica Stephens first became interested in preventative medicine, while she was studying her Nursing degree.

“I discovered that as a nurse, I would be administering drugs to help with pain and discomfort, and dressing wounds, but I wouldn’t be doing anything to prevent the patient from returning to the hospital with the same symptoms.

It was at this time, that I was experiencing chronic persistent headaches.  I had been to my doctor who had prescribed various medications, and had then suggested doing some tests. While I was purchasing my pain medication I noticed that a Naturopath was available that day.  I had a consultation with the Naturopath who performed laser acupuncture on me.  After that first treatment, my headache was all but gone.  I was curious about natural medicine, and my naturopath gave me a list of names, Acupuncture, Homeopathy, Osteopathy..and told me to read some books.

It was while I was meant to be studying my nursing texts at the State library, that I decided to ‘look up’ Acupuncture.  I was immediately drawn by the poetic nature of Yin Yang and the 5 elements, and how they relate to the seasons, and the energy around and within us.

When I read that the Chinese medical practitioner is like a gardener tending to the whole person, I knew I had found my vocation.

I decided at that point to complete my Nursing Degree, commence work and then pursue Chinese medicine in a few years.  However it was during my first year of practice, that I discovered that my heart lay in preventative medicine, in particular helping the body to heal itself.

I didn’t wait to wait any longer to start natural medicine, therefore I commenced and completed a degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture at Melbourne College of Natural Medicine.  This involved a lot of clinic time spent on campus and at outpatient clinics, such as the Collingwood Community Health Centre.

After completing my course, I have since discovered an additional passion for Nutrition.  I’m currently furthering my studies in Nutrition, so that I can educate my patients on how best to live a balanced healthy life.

My focus when treating clients is that of education and helping the client to understand why they became unwell, and how best to prevent it from occurring in the future.”

“Prevention is better than cure”

Matt Roessler

Matt Roessler started learning about acupuncture at the age of 7.

His martial arts master was a renowned hand acupuncturist who started to teach him the principles of the five elements and energy flow. In fact, a lot of the principles that Matt applies today relate back to the teachings that were passed on by his master.

“What really made me decide to follow my passion as an acupuncture practitioner was when I took my close friend to my teacher for treatment. My friend had Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue and was bed ridden for more than 2 years. No western treatment had been able to help my friend, so as a last resort we went to see my teacher who was still an active acupuncturist. Within 4 treatments my friend was out of bed and has never looked back since. It was then that I knew what my purpose in life was.”

Matt then went on to gain his formal qualifications at the Melbourne College of Natural Medicine. He at the outpatient service for 2 years and also treated the less fortunate at Collingwood Community Health Centre.

After completing his acupuncture course at Melbourne College of Natural Medicine Matt decided it was not enough just to learn one type of acupuncture. He decided to do a course in Toyohari (a form of Japanese acupuncture) and found that it had been what he was searching for ever since he was 7 years old.

This extensive knowlege of acupuncture and energy has facilitated a greater understanding about healing than most other acupuncturists.

Matt has used this knowledge to create the Pain-Free Acupuncture St Kilda Clinic in Melbourne.

He now has a special interest in: Stress/Anxiety/Depression, Sports Injuries, Insomnia, Digestion, and Women’s Health.

Matt is extremely passionate about helping people from all around the world reach their full health pontential in all aspects of life.
